This is the official Auto Amor Art Board (24 × 30 × 0.5 cm) — handmade in the studio cut from hardwood ply and sealed with two layers of rolled-on acrylic gesso.
Each board has a bit of personality:
• the edges can be a little rough from the cutting,
• the top surface might fancy a quick sand or an extra coat of your own gesso,
• and you’ll probably spot some honest wood grain here and there.
If you’re looking for a flawless, luxury, factory-perfect panel… this is not that.
This is the board you get because you’re taking part in the Auto Amor Project.
Compared to premium, factory-pressed birch ply panels—manufactured specifically for absolute flatness—this board is made from hardwood ply and prepared by hand at scale. As with most plywood-based art boards, storing it flat on a level surface when not in use helps it acclimatise and remain stable for working.
Stamped with the official logo on the back, this board lets you enter any of the 2026 Open Calls — giving you the chance to be exhibited and to be included in the Catalogue Collectif.

Inspired by Walter Hopps’ 1978 exhibition of the same name, Nora Straw founded ‘36 hours’ - a community art project that invites anyone and everyone to come and hang up their artwork. So long as it fits - we’ll hang it up.
36 hours is not just about giving people equal access to participating in the arts, but also invites those who don’t call themselves artists (but still create) the chance to showcase their creations. We want to create a space without pressure that allows you to celebrate and share your hard work - whether you made it for others’ eyes or not.
The ethos of both Auto Amor and the 36 hours project is to level the playing field. Therefore, for this Auto Amor open call we’re particularly encouraging you to take the plunge, push the boat out, and do whatever you want without fear. This exhibition is all about your vision- whether you’re a seasoned artist or starting something new.
The 36 Hours & Auto Amor buy and swap will be taking place on Thursday 28th May at Lewisham Arthouse.
All artists will work to the same scale, on our Auto Amor 24 x 30cm gessoed boards.
